Product

Title and description

All Products

The entire DataSet product range's software has been completely recompiled with the latest technology and the user interfaces have been reviewed and modified to make them truly user friendly. All the icons have been redesigned and are now in 32-bit color, users can customize each product's skin selecting from a wide range of colors and so on.

The DataSet Demo data source has been replaced by the Local SQL Server data source (which is not secured in DataSet Administrator) and which also replaces the old Local Database. The demonstration tables are now in an SQL Server database named DataSetReport.demo. The examples in this database have been modified and updated.

The DataSet DemoWeb data source has been replaced by a Secured SQL Server data source (secured in DataSet Administrator). The same demonstration tables are now in the SQL Server database named DataSetReport.demo.

DataSet Vision

DataSet Vision
Logically related features for projects, queries, reports and cubes are now grouped together in separate Properties window panes called pods. You can move a pod anywhere on the screen and pin it for easy accessibility. You can use the auto-hide feature of pods to show or hide them on the user interface.

The New command in a project now displays the following commands: New Project, New Query, New Report, New Cube, New SQL Data Source along with the Query/400 command if the iSeries TCPIP data source is present.
DataSet Vision now includes the Excel 2007 (*.xlsx) output format.

Certain old obsolete output formats have been removed (Lotus 123 DDE, Word 5, Word 6).

DataSet Vision now displays a dialog box which displays all the parameters the user needs to define when running a query, a report or a cube. This enables the user to view all the values attributed to each parameter at the same time (as it was already the case in the Web Portal) instead of displaying several dialog boxes one by one. This dialog box automatically displays a scroll bar if there is a long list of parameters.

The User Help has been completely rewritten and recompiled in order to offer online contextual help, a user friendly interface, easy navigation and ensure compatibility with Windows Vista, XP and 2003.

Parameters: when creating a new parameter, DataSet Vision automatically proposes the IGNORE word as the default value and the Extended option in the Selection box instead of Multiple.

Queries

This module now offers automatic joins when several tables are selected, as long as fields with the same name and type appear in the tables.

If a value is used to display the Top N records in a data grid, then this limit is is displayed in the lower right corner of the data grid when a query is run on the screen.

It is now possible to create a parameter based on a list of keywords. For the Date, Time and DateTime fields you can use keywords such as: Today, Yesterday, This Month, Last Month, Last Hour, This Hour, Next Hour, Tomorrow, Next Month, Next Week, This Week, Last Week, Next Year, This Year, Last Year, Last X Hours, Last X Days, Last X Months and so on. You can also enter a date such as October 2008 to get all the data for the month of October 2008 automatically.

It is now possible to hide the first column of a list displayed by Input List or Input Query List parameters via a new Hide List's First Column option. Note that as it was previously the case, the first column is the one whose content corresponds to the criteria for the column in question. If you hide the first column then you must set the Editable option to No.

Note: when the Hide the First Column option is activated, if you also want to display a default value, then this must follow the same logical order as the list of values, i.e. a first value which will be hidden, then the  | separator, followed by the value to display. To display IGNORE by default, you could enter IGNORE|IGNORE, or the text you want in the visible part, by, for example, IGNORE|All or IGNORE|All Values.

This new feature can be used, for example, to display keywords for the Date, Time and DateTime in the language you want or with the vocabulary you want. The first column, which will be hidden, will contain the invariant keyword in English used by the programme and the second column, which will be visible, will display the text you wish.

For example:

0 days ago|Today ; 1 days ago|Yesterday ; 0 weeks ago|This week ; 1 weeks ago|last week ; 0 months ago|This month ; 1 months ago|Last month

This data can be entered in one row by using a semi-colon separator or alternatively it can be entered via an ASCII List file in the format:

"0days ago" ; "Today"
"1 days ago" ; "Yesterday"
"0 weeks ago" ; "This week"
"1 weeks ago" ; "Last week"
"0 months ago" ; "This month"
"1 month ago" ; "Last month"

Reports
When creating a report from a Report Template, it is now possible to preview the template, you can zoom in to see an enlarged version of the preview picture by double-clicking the preview thumbnail. The new Standard and Customized tabs have been added. The Standard tab displays the templates delivered by default in DataSet Vision. The Customized tab helps the end user to create their own templates which will not be deleted or overwritten by another installation at a later date. It is possible to create a customized template, from scratch or based on a Standard template. To create a customized template from a Standard template, select the standard template you want to customized from the Standard tab, click New, the new customized template will automatically be inserted in the Customized tab.

When creating a report, the query column header labels are recopied in the Description zone of the report's fields. When you export a report to Excel, these descriptions will be used as column headers in the Excel sheet.

The reports now offer a new version of the ChartFX graphic module - DataSet Chart Designer. At present the module is in English.

In the graph, data can now be read in rows or in columns. This is espcially useful for pie charts.

The run conditions can now be directly accessed via the Properties General tab.

DataSet Vision now offers a new sort option "none", this enables you to define the sort you want, i.e. it is no longer obligatory to perform an ascending or descending sort on a break level. However, we recommend using an ascending or descending sort when a report is based on a query to garantee the coherent presentation of the result. When the report is based on cube data, it is not necessary to use an ascending or descending sort. Cubes enable you to sort data on sub-totals which are managed in the cube itself and in this case, the report generated by DataSet Vision does not need to sort the data again. In addition, even from a query, users can define which sorts they want according to the breaks generated in a report as long as the breaks are well managed.

The Net Report alerts which were previously in the run conditions can now be directly accessed via the Properties General tab.
In a report based on data from a cube, with the columns COL#000, COL#001 and so on, the user can now select the cube tab with a drop-down list, or redirect a formula which can contain parameters. For example, instead of selecting a tab with the name User by Hits, the user can now redirect the formula='Users by‘+ParamMeasure. The ParamMeasure parameter will have the value selected by the user, for example, "Hits", "Size" or "Bandwidth" and so on, and the report will use the tab corresponding to the name built by the formula.

In a report, the ParamAsString(‘parameter_name') function now enables the user to retrieve the keywords used on the date, datetime and hour fields, with the following options :

Syntax: ParamAsString ('Param_Name' [, option = 0])

Option = 0   displays the values of the start and end dates generated by the keyword.

Option = 1  displays the keyword if it exists otherwise it displays the values according to the date or part of the date entered.

Option = 2  displays the start date for the date interval (the keyword must be single-value and generate a date interval) otherwise nothing will be displayed.

Option = 3  displays the end date for the date interval (the keyword must be single-value and generate a date interval) otherwise nothing will be displayed.

For example, the PDate parameter proposes 'Last Month' as the keyword and it is currently April 2009.

The ParamAsString ('PDate' , 0) function will return 01/03/2009 00:00:00:31/03/2009 23:59:59  which corresponds to the start and end values of the interval generated by this keyword, separated by a semi-colon (:).

The ParamAsString ('PDate' , 1) function will return "Last Month".

The ParamAsString ('PDate' , 2) function will return the start date for the date interval generated by the keyword: 01/03/2009 00:00:00

The ParamAsString ('PDate' , 3) function will return the end date of the date interval generated by the keyword: 31/03/2009 23:59:59

In a report fed by a cube, if the sub-reports or graphs are also fed by tabs from the same cube, the Refresh Data option on the sub-reports and/or graphs in question can be defined as No in order to avoid recalculating the cube for a second time. The sub-reports and/or graphs will use the data updated by the cube for the main report, whose Refresh Data option will be the only one set to Yes

Cubes
The cubes now have dialog boxes to modify the properties managed by DataSet Vision.

The General tab displays the following properties: Data Source, Prompt User to Refresh Data, Refresh Data, Use the Software Supplier's Formatting, Display Cell Color.

The Permissions tab displays the following properties: Customized Sort, Filter, Toolbar, Commands & Options Pane, Group, Expand Button.

iSeries TCP/IP The following formulas have been adapted to more recent OS versions of iSeries machines:
Visible Formula iSeries Formula Description
DayOfWeek(§X)       dayofweek(§X)  Returns the day of the week from §X (1=Sunday)
DayOfWeek_ISO(§X) dayofweek_iso(§X) Returns the ISO day of the week from §X (1=Monday)

Note: the DayOfWeek_ISO(§X) formula was previously called DayOfWeekMo(§X). Please ensure you modify any queries which use this function.

WeekOfYear(§X) week(§X)

Returns the week number of the argument §X with Sunday as the first day of the week.

WeekOfYear_ISO(§X)

week_iso(§X)

Returns the ISO week number of the argument §X with Monday as first day of the week.

EBIS Please see all the new features in EBIS in version 5 by clicking the following link, click here. To see the new features in version 5.00.01, please click here.
Output Formats

When exporting data to a database, DataSet Vision now offers to memorise all the necessary parameters in order to reuse them following that without having to redefine them. The file with this information will have the file suffix *.fmt and will contain the following information: the database type, the destination table name with the full path, the names, types and length of all the columns used and all the other parameters which are visible in the dialog box for this type of output format (write attributes, authorised users, column name options, bulk copy options for SQL Server etc...).

DataSet Administrator

DataSet Administrator
Warning: from this version onwards, a new Licence Certificate for version 6 is required. Please contact your Supplier if necessary.

DataSet Server

The DataSet Demo data source has been replaced by the Local SQL Server data source (which is not secured in DataSet Administrator) and which also replaces the old Local Database. The demonstration tables are now in an SQL Server database named DataSetReport.demo. The examples in this database have been modified and updated.

The DataSet DemoWeb data source has been replaced by a Secured SQL Server data source (secured in DataSet Administrator). The same demonstration tables are now in the SQL Server database named DataSetReport.demo.

The New command now displays the following commands: New Data Source, New User Group, New User, New Password, New Menu. Certain commands are disabled according to the tab used by the administrator.

When DataSet Administrator is installed, a new group named BUILTIN\USERS is created without any users. All the users configured on the computer in question will automatically be part of this group.

According to the source selected in the Data Sources tab, the options displayed in the right pane will vary. For example, for an SQL Server data source, three options are proposed for the connection mode to the client user:

- Use a Single Authentication Profile on SQL Server.

- Use Windows Authentication.

- Use Authentication managed in DataSet Administrator.

The DataSet Services Status icon, now displays the current status of the DataSet services in a small window in the bottom right corner of the screen when the user clicks the icon. It is thus possible to see whether the services have been started or stopped according to the color code used here.

DataSet Model

The Export Report command now uses a new style sheet named mod_html.FRA.xsl which is used when generating reports in HTML format. The Word format (*.rtf) is no longer proposed.

The Save As command, now proposes to save the model in XML format with the file extension *.mox. Both formats, *.mod and *.mox can be used in the DataSet Model data source which is defined in the DataSet Administrator.

The Import XML command has been deleted, it has been replaced by the possibility to open a file in XML format created by the Save As command with a *.mox file extension.

Reminder: this XML format enables the user to modify the content of a Model file using the Find/Replace functions, for example if a library's name has been modified.

The Parameters dialog box has been updated to make it more user friendly, the following buttons have been added New, Edit and Delete.

DataSet Server

Web Server

Prerequisites: before installing the DataSet Web Server module, the program will check that the following components already been installed:

- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

- Microsoft Web Components 2003

If the above components have not already been installed, the program will offer to install them.

The DataSet Web Server module as been completely rebuilt using the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, this has significantly increased the speed, user friendliness and performance of DataSet Web Server. The old d7web directory has been removed and replaced by a new dvweb directory which is installed by default in: c:\inetpub\wwwroot.

The JSON system has been replaced by skins respecting Microsoft Architecture standards. Three skins are available by default. However, it is very easy to create new skins adapted to your company's look and feel.

Menu Builder

The Menu Builder module has been updated (all the icons have been modified and are now in 32-bit color), and certain dialog boxes have been optimized. For example, the Misc tab has been replaced, and the only option which this tab contained, i.e. the Visible in the Navigator option is now available in the General tab. The Output Format dialog box which enables administrators to specify the authorized output formats has also been enhanced.
